Description

The Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control (SATCo) is the only current measure that can quantify different types and intermediate levels of trunk control prior to independent sitting.

This course introduces the SATCo assessment, it's development and psychometric properties, how to administer and score the SATCo, and application for postural control in the clinic, school, home, and research settings. Video examples from typically developing infants and children with neurologic disorders (e.g. Cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury) are used throughout the course. This course includes a final one hour module, conducted 'live' via Zoom with the course instructors for integrated discussion, application, and time for Q&A with Course Instructors.

Approach

Target Audience: This self-guided course is recommended for clinicians and researchers interested in learning how to administer and score the SATCo for typically and atypically developing children across diagnostic groups and settings.

Objectives

Upon completion, the learner will be able to:

1. Set up, administer, and score Segmental Assessment for Trunk Control (SATCo) for a child.

 2. Recognize and offer recommendations for correction of common tester and scoring errors specific to testing children with typical and atypical development (postural dysfunction).

 3. Recognize compensatory strategies during SATCo administration and describe what these may reflect regarding underlying postural control.

 4. Discuss the application and implications of SATCo across settings and across diagnostic groups.

5. Discuss the theoretical constructs of current practice compared to a segmental approach for postural dysfunction.
